Exploring the intersection of art, science, and faith at Montreat

Gather with us this summer and be inspired! - Our Arts, Music, and Theology lecture series celebrates the inter-connectivity of art and theology through weekly presentations each summer. This year’s lecturers speak on a variety of topics ranging from Tolkien to humanitarian law to the agro-food movement to birdwatching. Our hope is that summer visitors may gain deeper understanding of our world as they share in each lecturer’s story. All programs are free and open to the public, and everyone is welcome! Check out the schedule below, and start making your plans to attend.
June 13 - "The Psalms of Middle-Earth: Tolkien’s Use of Songs to Tell a Story and Create a World" by Alec Peters, June 20 - "Melodious Accord: Singing the Hymns of Alice Parker" by Beth Neville Evans and Janet Legro, June 27 - "Refugee, Asylum, and Humanitarian Law in the U.S.: Examining the Legal Implications and Human Cost of Inhumane Policies" by Dierdre Giblin, July 11 - "Food for the Future: Stories from the Alternative Agro-food Movement" by John Brueggemann, July 18 - "A Wing and a Prayer: The Race to Save our Vanishing Birds ~ The Spiritual Side of Birdwatching" by Anders and Beverly Gyllenhaal, July 25 - "Soundtracks: Film Music, Liturgy, Community" by Eric Wall, August 1 - "Art and Sacraments: Choreography of Grace and Space" by Ann Laird Jones
Great leaders make for a great program! - Each of our 2023 lecturers were chosen for their particular expertise in their respective fields. We are so grateful for their participation! Read more about each leader on our website.
