A joyous Fall Craft Week at Montreat!

A recap of 2023's conference - Last month, we welcomed 130 conferees to Montreat during our annual Fall Craft Week, a conference center staple and favorite of many craftspeople and liturgical artists across the region. These participants quilted, carved, soldered, and sketched, in addition to many other forms of craft, as they attended twice daily classes for their chosen craft.
As the sun rose, participants would start the day and set their intention through the practice of yoga (led by Sarah Peters) and morning devotion, before heading off to their respective classes. In the evenings, they would share a meal together, gather for vespers led by Rev. Tom Ott, and participate in that evening’s activity. (We hear that open mic night was a big hit!) On the final night of the conference, the group gathered for a bit of show and tell - sharing their artworks and the subsequent insight garnered through their creation. It was a joyous affair, filled with laughter, the company of new-found friends, and the pride of jobs well done and new skills gained. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we also raised $4,451 through our closing auction, dedicated to scholarships for future participants, ensuring that the spirit of creativity and community continues to thrive. We give thanks that we are able to continue to offer this program and see the lasting impact it has on so many attendees who return year after year! And, if you’ve never attended before, we hope that you might be inspired to explore your creative side in 2024.
Pictures from the photography class - Each year, our photography class, led by Joye Ardyn Durham, manages to capture the wonder of Fall Craft Week in a variety of beautiful and creative ways. During the closing ceremony on Thursday night, a selection of photos were presented which highlighted the class’s efforts throughout the week. We are very pleased to make that same selection of photos available on our Flickr page.
