The visit to Rome is an opportunity for the students to understand the structure and nature of the Roman Catholic Church.

“One of the additional elements in this year’s programme in the Vatican is the visit to the General Secretariat of the Synod”, said Fr Dr Lawrence Iwuamadi, professor at the Bossey Ecumenical Institute. “We hope they could give us an insight into the synod process on synodality which is taking place in the Roman Catholic Church”, he added.

The study visit to the Vatican and Rome is organized jointly with the Dicastery for the Promotion of Christian Unity, which is the department of the Vatican responsible for the relationship between the Roman Catholic Church and other Christian churches.

It is also a tradition for students to participate in worship for the closing of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity at Saint Paul Outside the Walls on 25 January.

The visit to the Vatican City State and Rome, is part of the study module Ecumenical Study Visits. In addition to the Vatican, students have also visit the TaizĂ© community, Swiss Protestant parishes, and the Orthodox Centre in Chambesy
