Montreat Conference Center - Apply now to be a Small Group Leader!

Apply now to be a Small Group Leader - See how you can get involved with youth conferences this summer!
Come Spend Some Time With Us This Summer! Do you want to have an impact on the lives of today’s youth and have a little fun at the same time? Small Group Leaders (SGLs) are a very special group of volunteers that help facilitate faithful conversation and community growth at Montreat Youth Conference and Middle School Conference. Because Small Groups are so integral to the Montreat experience, this opportunity might seem a little intimidating. But rest assured, being a Small Group Leader is not only a lot easier than it looks, it is also an extremely rewarding, life-giving experience. If you are interested in applying, go ahead and submit an application using the link below or keep reading to learn more.
Apply online.
You Don't Have to be an Expert on Youth Ministry to Make a Difference. We look for volunteers who can help youth embrace their calling as Christians. Specifically, we are seeking individuals who can nurture youth, support them, and give them space to voice their opinions. We imagine you might already be doing this for other young people in your life! If selected to serve as a Small Group Leader, you would be there to guide youth as they make new friends, explore the conference theme, and deepen their faith. It should be noted that we don’t expect you to do this all on your own! In preparation for a time of service, all SGLs participate in training sessions (some of which take place on Zoom). Once the conference begins, we host daily devotionals and check-ins where conference leadership can offer support and guidance. And of course, there is the Small Group Leader Manual! Activities and discussion topics for each session you lead are planned out and clearly defined in this resource. If you’re feeling nervous, just play it by the book!
Check out last year's SGL manual.
You Give A Lot, But You Get A Lot, Too. Unlike years past, SGLs are no longer required to volunteer for two consecutive weeks of Montreat Youth Conference. Now, we only ask that you participate for a single week, making it easier to be involved if you are bringing a group, have children, or work full-time. (But you can opt-in for a second week if you want!) Over the course of that one week, you will lead two 1.5 hour sessions each day. In your free time, you can explore Montreat or gather with your Back Home Group. We do understand that being a Small Group Leader is a big commitment. In appreciation for all that you do while you are here, Montreat will cover all housing, meals, and travel expenses for SGLs.* Additionally, we will cover the costs for your dependent children to attend our Clubs or childcare programs.** *If staying in MCC housing. If staying in private housing, a per diem will be provided. **MCC housing and meals are available for dependent family members at a discounted rate. Travel expenses for family members are not covered.
Applications Are Now Open! Submit your application today! The priority deadline for consideration is February 24, 2025.
