Your election is a joyful and inspiring moment — one that affirms your lifelong dedication to the ministry of reconciliation, unity, and justice, and exemplifies your deep commitment to servant leadership in the body of Christ,” wrote Pillay. Your distinguished journey of faith and leadership, including your service to lead the United Church of Christ, has been a source of inspiration to many within the global Christian family.”

Pillay reflected that Thompson—who serves on the WCC executive and central committees and on the Permanent Committee on Consensus and Collaboration—has embodied a leadership rooted in humility, vision, and compassion.

Your insights and commitment have strengthened our shared ecumenical witness, and we give thanks for the ways in which you continue to build bridges across traditions and cultures in the spirit of mutual respect and unity,” Pillay wrote. As you now assume this new role within the WCRC, may your leadership continue to nurture collaboration among the churches, deepen our shared commitment to Gods justice, and bear witness to the transforming love of Christ in the world.”
