A Look at Mount Rushmore's Controversial History

Viral images found on Facebook and other social media platforms are endless sources of alarm and concern for our users, making them frequent submissions.  After President Donald Trump spoke at Mount Rushmore on July Fourth, a meme addressing the history of the land beneath it began to circulate online, and Snopes users asked us to verify the meme’s content.
Did hunters collect bounties on Native Americans? Was Mount Rushmore funded by the Ku Klux Klan?  Just how did the U.S. obtain the land on which the monument was built, anyway? Nur Ibrahim has the answers, and much more.
