The Pandemic's Impact on School Shootings

With millions of U.S. children out of school due to COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns across the country, some say the health crisis has had at least one salutary effect on the larger culture: fewer school shootings.
A tweet that went viral earlier this week claimed that March 2020 was the first March without a school shooting in the U.S. since 2002. A number of Snopes readers asked us if that statement is correct. The newest member of our reporting team, Jessica Lee, investigated.
